Are we seeing the rise of Manchester City?

Are we finally seeing the rise of Manchester City after watching them struggle last season?

After finishing in 4th place last season 17 points behind winners Chelsea, sacking their manager and Nick Cushing take over for the remainder of the 24/25 season we are finally seeing the tide turn for City and the results matching the performances on the pitch.

City appointed Andree Jeglertz as head coach ahead of the 25/26 season once the Euro's had finished and since his appointment things really have started to take a turn in the right direction for City.

The 25/26 kicked off for City with a fierce match up with reigning champions Chelsea which unfortunately ended in a 2-1 defeat for City however, you could already see a difference in the team from the previous season. Since that defeat City have gone on to win there next 10 games! No draws and no more losses up until the winter break which is super impressive and has helped them go into the winter break at the top of the table 6 points ahead of second place Chelsea. What is even more impressive though is that City have scored a total of 32 goals so far way above any other team in the league currently and have only conceded 10 goals.

City have had their challenges up to this stage though with injuries depleting their back line early on then Hemp being out for a period of time. Previously this may have had an impact on performances but this time around the team seemed to maintain their form and kept on bringing home the points.

Hasegawa has once again been a powerhouse in the middle of the pitch for the team, although she is one of the many midfielders who get overlooked just because they lack the flair and goals, yet she is integral in the build up play and providing the assists. One of our personal favourites this season so far though has been Fujino who has scored some fantastic goals and just like Hasegawa is all over the pitch helping the team out. Miedema is slowly coming into her own again this season and her link up play with Hemp has been great to watch. Of course we can't mention the rise of Man city without mentioning the goal scoring machine that is Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw, who is always there ready to get her name on the score sheet, breaking records and just helping City get back to the place they believe they should be.

As we head back into the action after the Christmas break are we going to see City keep momentum going or are we going to see Chelsea catching them up? Fingers crossed City keep the momentum going though as it is a breath of fresh air seeing someone else at the top after seeing Chelsea's dominance for so long.

With City sitting at the top of the table currently you would like to think that we would be seeing them back in the Champions League next season where they belong after a season away.  However as we all know you can never take things for granted in the WSL and upsets do happen so let's hope City keep going as they did before the break and put in that work on and off the pitch so the results follow.

It has been fun watching City so far this season and we are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the campaign holds, let's hope that come May we are writing all about how they have ended Chelsea's run of title wins and have won that silverware they deserve.

Are you impressed with how City have performed so far this season?
