There are certain players we would love to see playing in the WSL...

It has been mentioned a lot recently but the standard of women's football is just getting better and better, young players are bursting onto the scene making a name for themselves whilst players who have been around a lot longer are finally being drawn to fans attention rather than them slipping under the radar like they may previously have done. We saw at he summers World Cup just how the standard has grown with teams who might have previously been written off stepping up to cause plenty of upsets. There was a nice mix of young and experienced players in the tournament who stood out and no doubt their market value will have massively increased due to their performances. There is a lot of potential out there at the moment to really build upon existing squads which got us thinking about which players we would love to see join a team over here in the WSL.

It was very difficult to narrow it down to a handful of players we would love to see playing week in week out in the WSL but these are the players we would really love to see tearing up the league which with their skill levels no doubt they would make a huge impact in any team over here (at the time of posting these players currently aren't playing in the WSL but who knows miracles can happen and one day the might end up over here)....

Kadidiatou Diani

Whilst we were watching Euro 2022 Diani really stood out to us and since then we can't get enough of watching her play. At 28 years old we would love to see her leave her native France to join a team here in the WSL. Her pace is absolutely fantasitc and can trouble even the best of defenders. She is capable of picking up plenty of goals too and would no doubt be an asset to any team over here.

Aitana Bonmati

It is scary to think that Bonmati is still only 25 years old. She has such great knowledge of the game and her movement really causes trouble for the opposition. She plays football the Barca way and it is quite scary to think what she will be like in a few years with a bit more experience under her belt. If she stays major injury free we think she could easily be considered one of the greatest midfielders in the world in terms of the women's game. Just imagine her slotting into one of the midfields of a top 5 WSL team, she would definitely have a massive impact.

Lena Oberdorf

Oberdorf is still only 21 years old yet it feels like she has been around playing top flight football forever, she was playing for the National team at just 17 years old back in 2019 which just goes to show the talent she possesses. Back in the Euro 2022 Oberdorf really impressed however, it has been her Wolfsburg performances that have stood out for us, especially those few Champions league games vs Arsenal. Her tackling and ability to read play would make her an asset to any WSL team and we can't help but wish she would come over and join United as seeing her play in the flesh every home game would certainly be a treat.

Salma Paralluelo

Paralluelo is another player who is still only young but has a lot of on field ability already. At just 19 you could say Paralluelo has a lot to learn and experience to gain but she is already up there putting in fantastic performance to get both club and country those valuable results. Paralluelo definitely still has experience to gain and it would be brilliant if she could gain some of that experience by playing here in the WSL, either way though she could easily be a player we see on plenty of award nomination lists in the future.

Alexia Putellas

Undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, how good would it be to see Putellas playing in the WSL at some point in her career? Putellas is one of those names you get excited to see on the team sheet and even as she is returning from a serious injury you can't really help but think those fantastic performances are going to continue. It would be great to see her leave her native Spain and play a few seasons in the WSL in the future, I mean it is unlikely but we can dream right?

Ellie Carpenter

It is hard to believe Carpenter is still only 23 as just like with Oberdorf it feels like she has been around forever, but I guess that is one of the perks of Australia bringing players through the ranks young is that you really get to see them develop as players over the years. Carpenter has definitely made a name for herself since joining Lyon and shown how great she is in that right back position, we would love to see her play at somewhere like Manchester United or Manchester City as she would be an asset to any team and could work wonders in the WSL.

Esmee Brugts

Now this one is highly unlikely to happen as she has been snapped straight up by Barcelona however, at just 20 year old we are hopeful that one day we might get to see Brugts playing in the WSL. The Dutch forward really stood out at this summers World Cup and we are looking forward to seeing how her football develops during her time in Spain, it would be great to see her jump over to the WSL at some point though.

Lieke Martens

Martens has played football in the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and France so surely it is time she jumped over to the WSL before her career comes to an end. Martens is currently 30 years old but is still playing some absolutely fantastic football and could really have an impact in any WSL team and get them goals and plenty of assists. Martens really shows no signs of slowing down but at 30 years old you wonder how many years she has left in her, but before the end of her career it would be great to see her at any team in the WSL.

Emily Sonnett

When we had those Americans come over to the WSL we were really hoping that Sonnett would be one of those coming over but unfortunately she stayed in Sweden before heading back to the states. Sonnett is one of those players who puts in some absolutely solid performances but gets overlooked far too much and always has done. We have been big Sonnett fans since we started watching the Women's game and she was playing at the Portland Thorns and we just hope that one day she comes over to have a go at making a name for herself in the WSL as the fans would definitely be impressed by what they saw.

Kelley O'Hara

At 35 O'Hara is the oldest on this list and the chances of her ever giving the WSL a go is very slim however, we can hope can't we. O'Hara is another brilliant American player who hasn't always got the recognition she deserved. At 35 she is still playing some pretty good football and carries enough experience to held out any team she plays for. It would be great to see her in any team in the WSL however, she might be best suited to one of those that needs a little more experience in their back line. O'Hara has been a long term favourite of ours so to see her play in the WSL would be brilliant, it is highly unlikely to happen though but we can dream can't we?

There you have it those are the players that we really would love to see playing in the WSL at some point in their career, some of these players are still young enough to surprise us with a move but with others you can't help but think the chance has gone by, we might end up getting surprised though as we all know how unpredictable the transfer window can be. The fact that these players are playing in other leagues though just means that we have a lot more football to catch up on to see how well they are doing for their current clubs.

Who would you like to see playing in the WSL?
